Your human hair extensions will last longer with minimal processing. Using heat styling tools on any human hair extension (or your natural hair) will damage the strands. Excess washing or coloring will also damage the hair, just like your own natural hair. Yes, you can color, cut, curl, flat iron, and wash remy human hair extensions, but it must be done with care and with professional styling products and tools.



EXTENSIONIST TIP:

 

The more you process your remy hair extensions, (color them, use curling or flat irons, even wash them) the more you damage the hair. When you use heat styling tools, find the lowest heat setting that will curl or straighten your human hair extensions. Heat protectors are a must for human hair extensions!  Styling gels and foams will help to hold curls longer, but only use salon quality products to preserve the hair's moisture and shine. 

 

To minimize damage to your human hair extensions, we recommend owning two or more remy hair extensions sets. Keep one set straight for sleek straight styles, and one set curled for when you want a curly look. Not only will this increase the lifespand of your remy hair extensions, by minimizing heat styling damage, but it help you to change your look in seconds.



We also recommend that you buy a salon quality de-tangler with a conditioner to help your extensions tangle less. The leave-in conditioner will minimize breakage and help smooth the cuticles to give you silky soft hair. Use these sparingly to avoid over application or build up.



SALON TIP:



Use a salon grade shampoo and conditioner with a moisturizer. Never put your human hair extensions away wet after washing, let them air dry when possible to avoid the growth of mold or bacteria. Just like bread, if you seal the bag with moisture in it, the bread will mold. With gentle care and storage, you should only need to wash your extensions every few months, or 10 to 15 wears. Remember, human hair extension hair is "dead hair", it needs some help to stay soft and shiny. When you constantly process any type of hair, the ends will split, the cuticle will get damaged, and you loose the shine.  Buy a salon grade protectors and moisturizers. This will help to keep your extensions looking good and extend the life of your natural hair.



Lastly, if you experience a lot of breakage of your natural hair where you clip in your remy hair extensions, it means ....

 

1. You are wearing too heavy a gram weight. This means there is too much stress on your hair strands. We suggest you go down in gram weight and you should notice a difference. 

2. You may have to sacrifice the length. A shorter the length is more lightweight, and lessens the stress on your natural strands, decreases the chances that your hair is "pulled or tugged on" by sticking to clothing or caught under a shoulder bag. Though this type of pulling may be subtle, it can damage fragile fine hair.

3. Your natural hair is too fragile to wear extensions. There will always be a small amount of breakage no matter the hair type if you are rough on your hair. SOMETIMES, you can replace the clips. Larger clips will hold more hair strands and help reduce the breakage. You can also reposition, (change the placement) your extensions so the same strands do not take the stress every time you wear your extensions.
