Royal Remy Clips Hair Care

Heat Styling Your Extensions

You may heat- style your hair extensions just as you do with your natural hair.  You can blow-dry, curl and straighten them, but keep in mind, these are human hair extensions, and will damage just like your own hair.  You should always use a heat protectant spray before applying hot curling and straightening irons.

Many flat irons, and curling irons have ceramic tourmaline plates, which promotes shine and prevents frizz.  You should use a iron that has a temperature dial so you can customize the amount of heat you apply to your hair extensions. Ion flat iron technology, reduces static, eliminating frizz so you get shinier, smoother hair. Most salon professionals use ion styling tools.

Find an ion hair dryer that emits negative ions once it heats up. Similar to traditional hair dryers, they still have a fan the blows out the hot air, however, once the negative ions come in contact with the hair, the ions disperse in such a way that they infuse the cuticle of the hair with moisture and shine.

Negative ions actually help to flatten the cuticle instead of raising the cuticle. When the cuticle is raised, the result is usually frizzy, unhealthy hair. However, an ion dryer can help lock moisture into the cuticle, and leaves the hair much softer, smoother and healthier.

When you can, it is a good idea to allow your hair to air dry. The more you blow dry your Royal Remy Clips extensions, the faster they will dry out. The heat will also open the cuticle and leave the hair looking less shiny. As damage increases, it is also advised to have your extension ends trimmed just like your own hair.  The less damage to the extensions, the longer they will last.

Our hair extensions are 100% Remy human hair, so they will last you up to a year or more with proper care.  That is a long time for hair extensions. If you only use them for special occasions, give them gentle care, the life span of your extensions can be years.

Washing Your Extensions

Depending on the usage of the extensions, we advise to only wash them every 4-6 weeks with a salon grade shampoo, that has been diluted with distilled water.  Distilled water is chemical free and is less abrasive on your extension hair. Hair extensions are not like your natural hair, in that they do not grow out of your head collecting your natural oils.  They need moisture, conditioning, and stay free from chemicals and heat to stay soft and silky.

Washing every 4-6 weeks will refresh your extensions from hairsprays and other product build-up.  Washing on a regular basis is not advised, it will strip your hair of moisture and color and dry them out faster.

Always apply a quality salon grade deep conditioner to them after washing, and rinse in distilled cold water.  The cold water will help shut the cuticles of your hair, locking in the nutrients. Apply a leave-in conditioner.

When brushing your wet hair, spritz with a de-tangler that has a leave-in conditioner. Separate the hair into small sections. From the bottom of the hair, work your way to the top of the weft a few inches at a time to detangle.  Use a wide toothed comb or brush and gently work your way through the hair.

Dying Your Extensions

You can dye or color your extensions.  It is advised to have a professional stylist dye them for you for the best results.  Always be sure that your stylist is knowledgeable in how to color extension hair! Never drastically change the color of your extension hair, you may not get the color you want. Extension hair is double processed, (Colored and Textured Straight or Wavy), as a result you must know how to treat processed hair for the best results.

For instance, if you have dark hair extensions, it is not advised to bleach them platinum blonde.  Always use professional salon grade hair color products.  Do not go more than 1 or 2 shades darker from the original color.  If you must drastically change the color of your extensions, get professional help.

We highly advise you to always go darker, since your extension hair has been processed by several methods before you receive them. Extension hair will get damaged faster with bleaching. Adding a darker color will coat the hair shaft and help to give it a silky softer feel, and add shine.

If you need to go lighter, we recommend you buy a lighter extension set. You can always add a darker color or low lights to it. It is important that hair extensions are dyed using a salon grade semi-permanent hair dye. This type of dye is less damaging and does not dry out the hair as much as permanent hair dyes. Permanent hair dyes can significantly dehydrate the extensions.
